Course Description
This training includes a combination of lecture, discussion, visual PowerPoint presentation and practical exercises performed by the trainee. These topics include:
Ø Operating instructions
Ø Warnings and precautions for the truck the operator will be authorized to use
Ø Differences between the truck and automobile
Ø Truck controls and instrumentation, engine or motor operation
Ø Steering and maneuvering
Ø Visibility (including restriction due to loading)
Ø Fork and attachment adaptation
Ø Operation and use limitations
Ø Capacity and stability of the vehicle
Ø Inspections, maintenance, refueling and/or charging the batteries
Course Objectives:
To train employees in the proper and safe operations of powered industrial trucks, which includes the proper care, maintenance, and safe operation while using a forklift.
*Operator training must be received before assignment to operate a powered industrial truck.**
**Refresher training is required for the following: (per 1910.178, and 1926.602)
Ø The operator has been observed to operate the vehicle in an unsafe manner
Ø The operator has been involved in an accident or near miss incident
Ø The operator has received an evaluation that reveals that the operating is not operating the truck safely.
Ø The operator is assigned to drive a different type of truck
